I have been watching this handbag since… May (My Mother’s Day Wish List). I just can’t help myself. I love it! I mean, it’s not like I don’t find other handbags I like just as much (enter pretty much anything by Marc by Marc Jacobs), but I just can’t justify the $400 plus price tag. I have a closet full of Coach, but it’s only because I worked there and got steals on each and every one of them!
So $156 down from $258, not bad, right? I’ve never seen it go that low and, trust me, I’ve been watching! ”But how will you be able to justify that extra $156 in your $200 monthly clothing budget?”, you ask. I have a plan: sell stuff. I’m not a crazy eBay-er or Craigslist-er, but I certainly don’t believe in clutter. And if you’re not using it, then either donate it or sell it.
With that spirit in mind, I listed this Coach Hailey Hobo in Mahogany bag on eBay that I wore maybe twice. Who knows, maybe I’ll get lucky and it’ll sell for enough to cover the entire $156. But I’m being realistic here. I’d be THRILLED if it went for $100.
So now I need to find $56. We don’t have a LOT of wiggle room in our monthly budget, but we are each allotted $100 to do with pretty much whatever we want. This is above and beyond my clothing budget. It goes pretty fast though. A couple of months ago I wanted to go to the flea market just for fun. Well I bought this really old, tall wooden dresser that was in rough shape for $25. I sanded, painted green, lacquered (well, Mike lacquered) and put new knobs on the thing (the knobs cost almost twice what the dresser did!). Then I bought a small piece of art for $12 to place above it. All in all that pretty much sucked up my $100 (you can see said dresser behind me in all my iPhone photos, btw. Impressed yet? Don’t look too close at the paint job though… Let’s just say I’m no pro.).
But I digress…
I haven’t touched my extra hundy from September because I knew I wanted to start saving for a new bag. I have had my eye on the above J.Crew bag as well as this one (Marc by Marc Classic Q-Natasha in black), but ugh. I don’t want to pay $368 for a bag. I received a 20% off coupon in the mail from Piperlime that would have worked, but that still puts it at $295. Three months of saving my “extra” money. Ha! I’m not much of a “saver”. It’s a problem.
And there, my friends, is how I came up with the $156 for this bag. Justifiable, I think. Want to see me justify the Mac by Marc bag??? I could find a way. :)
So, the question remains: buy or bypass? Should I snag this deal while it’s hot or hold out for my true love, the Marc by Marc Classic Q-Natasha?
What would you do?
